I have a new found hair style and it’s prompted some deep thinking:
Question: Which came first, the chicken or the egg?
Answer: Today it’s the egg. More specifically, just the egg white. Well, but maybe it was the chicken that actually came first, because this morning I was almost too chicken to try something new with my hair. So chicken – the chicken came first. Wait, but the eggs existed in my fridge before I felt chicken. So the eggs – the eggs came first. Hmmm…but the eggs from my fridge had to come from an actual chicken. And that chicken would have come from an actual egg, right? Holy cow (or should I say holy chicken) No wonder people never get to bottom of this. Oh well. Forget the farm.
Wonder of wonders, miracle of miracles - my hair is officially past the awkward phase! No self-botched bangs striving to grow out, no awkwardly cut “uglies” dangling in my face (remember uglies Melissa?) no split ends thanks to a hair cut last week from Bryn, no roots because…er…um…I’m naturally super blonde (my wallet could only wish!), and no more hoping my hair would pass up my shoulders. Ladies – I resisted the urge to cut my locks and low and behold – I LOVE IT! Maybe not as much as those Herbal Essences ladies claim to love their hair, but if a bottle of shampoo could elicit such a reaction, I think it’d cost a little more than $3 a bottle. But I digress…
With my new length, I’ve had to find some new styles. So today I tried a secret that I heard from my old hair dresser in Utah. Egg whites. Gross? Kinda. But when you see the results – the gross factor is easier to overlook.
I don’t have curly hair, but I really love the “scrunched” look. In the past I’ve tried to get my hair to curl by using a ton of product and diffusing, but my hair ends up funky and goopy instead of the gorgeous I was going for. So here’s what I tried today…
Towel dried my hair (didn’t brush it straight)
Added a leave in conditioner to protect the ends of my hair
Cracked an egg into a bowl but only kept the egg white
Added about a tsp. of water and mixed with a fork
Dipped my hands into the mixture and scrunched into my hair
Diffused with my head turned upside down until dry
With curls in place , I headed to work where four different people have complimented me on my hair. Not too bad. I got a hair boost AND a self esteem boost - rock that.
Conclusion: Egg whites may not give you sweet smelling Herbal Essences ecstasy – but they will give your wallet a break and your hair some bodacious bounce.
So which came first, the chicken or the egg? Who cares! What came last was one happy chick with long curly hair!
I totally use egg whites for "curly" hair days! It works WONDERS! Whitney does to, it works in more ways than one.
ReplyDeleteHere's a tip: Once you have the egg whites, mix them with an electric mixer until they are white and a little more firm, like moose. It still works great and it's not so gross. :) The girl who told me about it said to add a sprinkle of sugar. I've never tried adding water, I'll have to see what that's like.
Be careful not to recommend this to dark haired friends and don't combine with dark clothes because by the end of the day it can leave little white flakes in your hair or on your shoulders, eek! :)
Beauty knows no pain nastiness. hehe
I bet it looked adorable! I can't imagine you with curly hair! I would love to see a picture or if I'm patient, I can see your locks in person in nine days! Woohoo!
ReplyDeleteWhat, no picture?! C'mon, if you are going to say how much you loved it I wanna see! :) And now I totally want to try this. And on a sidenote, even though we both sang Mom the same song, I know I totally thought of it first. haha Love you!
